This weekend was full of celebrations. After a "Celebration of Truth" Juneteenth event in Castleberry Hill, Georgia, BNC teamed up with NBA legend Kevin Garnett for his ‘Hoop It Up’ Juneteenth Jamboree. BNC's Aiyana Cristal joins "Start Your Day" with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill with more from the men's and women's tournaments in Atlanta. “Hoop It Up” is recognized as the largest three on three basketball tour in the world. Garnett hopes to take this tournament international and give hoopers an opportunity to play the game they love. NBA legend Kevin Garnett wants to expand the Hoop It Up basketball tournament to more cities in the U.S. and bring it to Africa. “I want to take it to every city in America,” Garnett says. “Can’t wait to take Hoop It Up to Africa. I want to take Hoop It Up’s sister company, Kick It, to Africa.” The NBA Hall of Famer acquired Hoop It Up, a grassroots 3-on-3 basketball tour, in 2019. The legendary tournament has been around since 1989. As the new owner, KG is restoring the community aspect of the sporting company. 3-on-3 basketball is now an Olympic sport. Garnett also speaks about the growing interest in the street style sport of basketball. He hosted the Hoop It Up Juneteenth Jamboree for this year’s championship round at Marietta High School in Atlanta. BNC airs the live broadcast. The victory was snagged because the team had the highest points after the 10-minute game time was up. The rules state that the winner is the first team to get to 21 points, or the team with the most points when the game clock expires. The Dreamchasers beat out Sciatica 21-14 during the Hoop It Up women's championship game in Atlanta on Sunday. BNC’s Aiyana Cristal joins National Hoop It Up Director Dan Cramer to present the team with their trophy. “Their name is Dreamchasers, which is perfect for our first event of the year of the Kevin Garnett Hoop It Up 3x3 basketball tournament,” Cramer tells Cristal. “It’s great to have these women participate and be a part of the whole event.” Forward Lakeia Stokes also speaks with Cristal about beating out Sciatica, who the Dreamchasers played twice before heading into the championship game.
